Summer Trip 2025: Getting Certified in Real Survival Techniques

After preparing with an  epic winter hike and Runmageddon, we were ready to take on this challenge. For this year’s summer trip, we traded hotel comfort for a raw forest environment. Together, we built shelters, made fire, sourced water, and navigated unfamiliar terrain. It was about more than just survival; it was about teamwork, resilience, and stepping far outside our comfort zones, all under the guidance of professional survival trainers.

The Equipment

We discovered how to set priorities for survival, identified the true equipment essentials, tried every type of knife, found our perfect blade match, and mastered handling a saw like pros.

The Fire

We mastered several ways to start a fire: from using a string, a cotton pad, and… a tampon 👀, to natural birch bark and other treasures found in the woods.

The Wood

We got to know where to find the proper wood, which wood burns best, where to find it, and how to prepare it for the perfect campfire.

The Meal

Some of us felt the comfort of home, others pushed their limits gutting fish or even daring to try a raw fish eye! The reward was worth it, hand-prepared fish, seasoned with the most magical secret ingredient: hunger + plus a pinch of campfire dust. Easily the best team lunch we’ve ever had!

The Roof

We built the simplest shelter: three wooden sticks, a tarp, and a bit of cord. Doesn’t sound cozy? After merging our shelters into one and lighting a campfire in the middle, the forest turned into a true camp vibe.

The Navigation

We learned to navigate with a traditional compass, and even how to make one from what nature provides. Now we’re confident each of our Inuit will always find their way home.

The Certification

At the end, we all passed the final test and officially earned our survival certificates. Congratulations, team!
